Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 12-hour night shifts, 7PM–7AM, 36 hours per week
  • 16-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit with an average census of 16 patients
  • Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, abdominal pain, cellulitis, COPD exacerbation, heart failure observation, dehydration, hypertension, diabetes, post-op day 1 stays, simple trauma, MVC, and falls
  • Unit also receives patients boarding from the ER awaiting inpatient admission beds, resulting in high patient turnover
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6
  • Epic EMR (experience required)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, Dynamap portable vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, portable oxygen systems, Glucommander, PCA pain management devices, and suction machines
  • Every-other-weekend rotation (approximately 5–6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule)
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to all adult Med/Surg Telemetry units within the facility

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required
  • Associate's degree in Nursing (ADN) at minimum
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and drips titrated to HR
  • Strong cardiac monitoring and rhythm interpretation skills
  • IV insertion and maintenance skills required
  • 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Level 1 Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital with a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Central Telemetry Unit provides remote telemetry monitoring support
  • CNA support available for vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulation, turning, hourly rounding, and patient transport
  • Unit secretary on-site from 7AM–11PM; house-wide call secretary available overnight
  • Charge nurse, discharge nurses, and a resource float team provide additional unit support
  • Respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
  • No IV team on-site; a PICC team is available
  • Phlebotomy is lab-collected on most units; nurses draw from CVLs
  • Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) test completed during onboarding
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of general hospital orientation with educational modules, followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage requires working one shift of each major holiday period: Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • Navy scrubs required for RNs
  • Free parking is available around campus
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius rule — the same rate applies to local travelers
  • Must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position there
