Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift travel contract requiring 2+ years of critical care experience, Epic proficiency, and a willingness to float across multiple regional facilities.

Responsibilities

  • 4-bed ICU unit in a non-trauma, non-teaching community hospital setting
  • Patient population includes sepsis, ARDS, GI bleeds, DKA, cardiac arrest, withdrawal, renal failure, and other general critical care diagnoses (no cardiac surgical patients)
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2; CNA support available with an approximate ratio of 1:10
  • Critical care procedures include management of vasoactive and sedation drips, invasive line management (arterial lines and CVP), ventilator management, chest tubes, cardiac rhythm interpretation, blood product administration, and wound care
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, telemetry monitors, bladder scanner, and stroke cart
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating required to all facilities within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH pediatrics) within scope of practice — candidates not willing to float to these facilities should not apply
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • RNs are responsible for phlebotomy; a hospital phlebotomist may be available on request
  • Department support includes 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist, intensivist coverage 9:00 AM–11:00 AM with VCC coverage for remaining hours, and an IV/VAT team; no HUC or unit receptionist
  • Orientation includes facility new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Scheduling is managed on a 6-week cycle
  • Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Free parking is available on-site
  • Candidates who have worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
  • First-time travelers are not preferred but may be considered with strong ICU experience

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR required
  • General critical care skillset required: vasoactive and sedation drip management, invasive line management, ventilator management, cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tube care, blood product administration, and wound care
  • Candidate's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the home unit (locals not accepted)
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
