Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 3 Trauma and Stroke Center of Excellence, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float across a regional health system.

Responsibilities

• 12-hour night shifts (1900-0700), 36 hours per week on a 6-week scheduling cycle
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Level 3 Trauma hospital with 457 licensed beds, also designated as a Stroke Center of Excellence, Bariatric Center of Excellence, and Chest Pain Center
• Med/Surg Telemetry unit with an average census of 51 patients
• Patient population includes chronic disease, CHF, COPD, diabetes, wound care, geriatric care, mental health, addiction services (including patients requiring 6-week IV antibiotic therapy)
• RN-to-patient ratio is 1:4–6 (acuity-dependent); may surge to 1:7–8
• CNA support ratio of 1:7
• Required skills include cardiac rhythm interpretation, experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (Cardizem/Amiodarone), IV starts, blood product administration, care of patients with tubes/drains, and wound care/dressing changes
• Equipment includes scales, glucometer (GBS machine), transfer device, vein finder, EKG, crash cart, language interpreter, telemedicine cart, and Doppler
• EMR: Epic
• Floating is required across Region 1 facilities within scope of practice, including locations in Concord, Charlotte, Albemarle, and Mooresville, NC
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• Department support includes a Nurse Manager, Administrative Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Supervisor, staff RNs, CNAs, Clinical Mentor, Rapid Response RN, and House Supervisor
• Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays
• RTO: Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays; missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Parking is free
• This position participates in SimpliFi clinical interviewing

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Must be willing and able to float to all facilities within the regional health system as needed
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum one professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Permanent address must be located more than 50 miles from the home unit (local candidates not accepted)
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
