Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Trauma Level III teaching hospital, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a night shift schedule with every-other-weekend rotation.

Responsibilities

• Night shift position with shift times of 1850–0710 or 1900–0700, with a 36-hour per week option available
• 23-bed Med/Surg Tele unit with an average daily census of 21 patients
• Patient population includes chest pain, rule-out stroke, syncope, dizziness, respiratory illness, and a variety of other diagnoses
• RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–5; CNA support at 1:7 on days and 1:10 on nights
• Common skills include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, Flexiseals, Foley)
• Medication drip management includes cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF
• EMR: Epic (experience required); IV Pumps: Alaris; Med Dispensing: Omnicell
• Weekend rotation is every other weekend
• 75% of holidays are required
• Floating required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH — peds only), within scope of practice
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Schedule is posted in 6-week cycles
• Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the unit; local candidates are not accepted
• Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
• First-time travelers are not preferred but will be considered
• Unit support includes a free-floating Charge RN, on-site Supervisor, 24/7 Hospitalist and Respiratory Therapy (not unit-dedicated), and a shared IV/VAT Team and phlebotomy service
• Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
• RTO: Up to 6 days off may be approved, excluding holidays; time must be added to the end of the contract if contracted hours are not met
• Scrub color: Navy

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Experience with cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, and advanced drip management required
• Proficiency with Epic EMR required
• Trauma Level III and teaching hospital background preferred
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• Minimum of 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
