Responsibilities

- Unit covers both Medical-Surgical Telemetry and Progressive Care (PCU/DOU/IMC) patient populations
- Patient population includes active oncology diagnoses and treatments (solid tumors, hematology), oncology workup admissions, and non-oncology diagnoses such as COPD, sepsis, pneumonia, and surgical cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3 on PCU and 1:4–5 on MS; CO-to-inmate ratio is 1:2
- Floating required across various Oncology MS units as needed; some shifts will be assigned to MS, others to PCU
- Procedures include cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (no titration), PCA management, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy management, and phlebotomy
- EMR: Epic (required); Medication system: Pyxis
- Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Weekend shift requirements vary based on unit needs
- Candidates will provide telemetry-monitored care to an incarcerated oncology and general medical-surgical patient population in a secure, locked unit
- Robust on-site support available including interpretation services, pharmacy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, and transportation
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- Former employees of the facility are eligible after a 6-month separation period; current Ohio State University hospital employees are not eligible
- All time-off requests must be submitted at the time of application and built into the contract
- Fingerprinting is required for Ohio credentialing and must be initiated promptly after signing — candidates outside of Ohio may need to travel to an Ohio fingerprinting location or complete a mailed packet urgently upon receipt
