Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Urology/Nephrology unit position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Illinois, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active IL RN license.

Responsibilities

• Acute care hospital setting — Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility with 562 staffed beds
• Med/Surg Urology/Nephrology unit with a 25-bed unit and an average daily census of 23
• Patient population includes genitourinary and renal cases such as renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis management
• Night shift schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hours (18:45–07:15)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating to other Med/Surg units required as needed
• Charge nurse responsibilities required on an as-needed basis
• No on-call requirements
• Charting via Cerner EMR
• Free parking available with a permit obtained during orientation
• First-time travelers are welcome — candidates should demonstrate a solid RN foundation with 2+ years of Med/Surg experience
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
• RTO requests should ideally not exceed 5 days for the assignment — all scheduling requests must be submitted upfront
• Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
• Block scheduling will be accommodated when possible but is not guaranteed
• 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Requirements

• Active IL RN license currently in hand or actively in the application process
• Current BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
• Med/Surg and telemetry work setting experience required
• Cardiac monitoring skills required, including remote telemetry monitoring and use of Rapid Response Teams
• Genitourinary/renal experience required, including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• IV therapy skills required: blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Heparin administration experience required
• Respiratory care experience required: chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and portable oxygen
• Proficiency in isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac required
• Cerner EMR experience required
