Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown position requiring at least 3 years of MS/Telemetry experience and the ability to manage drips and interpret telemetry strips.

Responsibilities

• Acute care hospital setting with a 26-bed PCU/Stepdown unit
• Medical/Surgical/PCU patient population; patients may present as critically ill with drips, invasive monitors, and respiratory support needs — no ICU on site, higher acuity patients are transferred out
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–5
• Nurse aides available on the unit at a 1:8 ratio, handling vitals, ADLs, I/Os, patient transfers, transports, and showers
• Respiratory therapy staffed in-house 24/7; manages all respiratory equipment including continuous BiPAP/CPAP
• Nurses are required to occasionally titrate drips including insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in use
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry; Mindray cardiac monitors used on the unit
• Charge nurse takes a reduced patient assignment; travelers are not typically asked to step into the charge role
• Charting system: TruBridge (Evident/CPSI)
• 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
• Every other weekend required
• May be included in the holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• No floating requirement for RNs
• 1–2 days of on-unit orientation with a preceptor, based on individual needs
• Mandatory online modules must be completed prior to starting on the floor; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete and will be assigned via email before the start of the assignment
• Scheduling is not block-based; travelers are expected to be flexible and help fill gaps in the permanent staff schedule
• Navy blue scrubs required
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• This small community hospital has a broad scope of clinical capabilities and is currently working toward achieving Level IV Trauma Center designation

Requirements

• Active NM or Compact RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 3 years of MS/Telemetry experience required
• PCU or Stepdown experience preferred
• Ability to titrate drips required
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Ability to manage and maintain intubated patients is a plus
• LTAC experience is a plus
