Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level I Trauma acute care hospital, requiring at least 2 years of L&D experience and the ability to circulate in the OR.
Responsibilities
- 13-week contract in an acute care Labor & Delivery unit at a Level I Trauma facility
- Unit includes 16 labor rooms, 9 antepartum rooms, 7 triage beds, 3 OR suites for C-sections, and 36 postpartum beds
- High-risk OB and routine obstetric patient population, with up to 400 births per month
- Patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1–2 for laboring patients, 1:2–3 for antepartum
- RNs are required to titrate drips including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and pain medications
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system used is Obix; Epic is the EMR
- 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700); day shift also available (0630–1900)
- Weekend requirement is every third weekend, with the possibility of every other weekend based on unit need
- Float to Postpartum is expected; occasional float to the house as a sitter may be required
- 2 OB technicians (OBTs) are on each shift; charge nurse present on both shifts and does not take an assignment
- OB/Neonatology coverage includes 3 residents and 1 supervising MD on the floor at all times, with CRNAs on the unit 24/7
- RNs will provide care to both laboring and antepartum patients, and are expected to float to Postpartum, requiring proficiency in both maternal and newborn care
- Surgical scrubs are provided by the facility
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to remove artificial nails will result to contract termination
- Unit-specific orientation consists of 2–3 shifts
- 1 major and 1 minor holiday coverage required
- RTO requests must be submitted upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract will be approved, and additional RTO will not be approved after the candidate is submitted
- Candidates must permanently reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the position
- Successful candidates are described as team-oriented, flexible, positive, and eager to learn
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, NRP, and Intro to Fetal Monitoring; all must be active — pending certifications are not accepted
- Ability to circulate in the OR is required
- Competency in normal newborn assessments and routine newborn care required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Driver's license required for consideration to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years; references must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
