Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg experience and a night shift schedule.

Details

  • Night shift position, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 20-bed Transitional Care Unit split between two wings (5A and 5B)
  • Patient population includes general medical cases such as CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory conditions, CIWA patients, infections, and wound care; any service line may admit, including general surgery
  • Patient ratio is 1:5
  • Skills required include trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Required non-titrating drip experience: Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix
  • Preferred non-titrating drip experience: Cardizem and Amiodarone (can be taught on unit if no prior experience)
  • EMR is Epic; experience preferred
  • IV pumps are Alaris; medication dispensing via Omnicell
  • Bedside monitors with a central monitoring station at the nurses' station for telemetry
  • Floating within scope of practice may be required within the hospital
  • No on-call responsibilities

Requirements

  • Active NC RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Experience with trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care/dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Experience with non-titrating drips including Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Level 1 Trauma Center and Academic Medical Center environment with 885 licensed beds, a Chest Pain Center, and a Stroke Center
  • Unit support includes 1 CNA per wing, a shared charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, and resident coverage
  • Orientation includes facility NEO followed by 2 on-unit orientation shifts
  • Schedule is built in 6-week increments; travelers are placed into open slots
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract
  • 50% of holidays during the contract are required to be worked
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available on site
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
