Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- 36-hour per week position on a Transitional Care Unit (TCU) within a large academic medical center (885 licensed beds) with Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center designations
- Split unit with 20 total beds across two sub-units (5A and 5B), each with 10 beds
- Patient population is primarily medical, including CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory conditions, CIWA, infections, and wound care; surgical and other service line patients may also be admitted
- Patient ratio is 1:5
- Day shift: 0630–1900
- Weekend rotation: every other weekend
- Holiday coverage required for 50% of holidays during the contract
- Floating within scope of practice may be required across the hospital
- No on-call or callback requirements
- EMR: Epic (experience noted)
- IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
- Bedside telemetry monitors with central monitoring at the nurses' station
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, and central line blood draws
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation required (strip check-offs performed during shift)
- Experience with non-titrating drips required: Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix
- Experience with non-titrating drips preferred: Cardizem and Amiodarone (can be taught on unit)
- At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
Additional Information
- Support staff includes 1 CNA per sub-unit, a shared charge nurse who may take patients, phlebotomy available 24/7, and 24/7 coverage from respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and residents
- Orientation includes hospital new employee orientation (NEO) plus 2 shifts on the unit
- Schedule is built in 6-week increments; travelers are placed into available openings in the schedule
- RTO of up to 7 days may be approved during the contract
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Free parking is available on-site
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
