Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Transitional Care Unit within a large, 885-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma Academic Medical Center and Chest Pain/Stroke Center
  • Unit consists of 20 total beds split across two pods (5A and 5B)
  • Patient population includes general medical patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory conditions, CIWA, infections, and wounds; surgical and other service line admissions are also possible
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • Common procedures include trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, central line blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Non-titrating drips required: Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix
  • Non-titrating drips preferred: Cardizem and Amiodarone
  • EMR: Epic (experience required)
  • IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
  • Telemetry monitoring via bedside monitors with a central monitor at the nurses' station
  • Day shift: 0630–1900
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating within scope of practice at the hospital may be required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Unit support includes 1 CNA per pod, a charge nurse covering both pods, 24/7 phlebotomy (RNs may also collect labs), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 hospitalist and resident coverage
  • Orientation includes a hospital-wide NEO followed by 2 on-unit orientation shifts
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; local candidates are not accepted
  • Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract
  • 50% of holidays during the contract are required to be worked
  • Schedule is built in 6-week increments; travelers will be placed in open slots
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue
  • Free parking is available on-site

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Experience with trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, wound vacs, drains, central line blood draws, and cardiac rhythm interpretation required
  • Experience with non-titrating drips (Heparin, Lasix, Protonix) required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
  • Must provide last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN, required for consideration
