Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic medical center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active NC or compact RN license.

Details

  • Night shift position, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 20-bed Transitional Care Unit split across two wings (5A and 5B)
  • Patient population includes general medical patients with diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, kidney, liver, GI, and respiratory conditions, CIWA patients, infections, and wounds; surgical and other service line patients may also be admitted
  • 1:5 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Telemetry monitoring via bedside monitors with a central monitor at the nurses' station
  • Required non-titrating drips include Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix; experience with Cardizem and Amiodarone is preferred
  • EMR: Epic; IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • 50% of holidays must be covered during the contract
  • Floating within scope of practice at the hospital may be required
  • No on-call or call-back responsibilities

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Required skills: trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and central line blood draws
  • Experience with non-titrating drips (Heparin, Lasix, Protonix) required
  • At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Additional Information

  • Level 1 Trauma designated academic medical center with 885 licensed beds, also designated as a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Unit support includes 1 CNA per wing, a charge nurse covering both areas, 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and resident coverage
  • Short orientation consisting of a new employee orientation (NEO) followed by 2 on-unit orientation shifts
  • Schedules are built in 6-week increments; travelers are assigned to open slots in the schedule
  • Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract
  • Royal blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available on site
  • Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
