Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position at a Level 1 Trauma, Academic Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active NC or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Night shift position, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
- Transitional Care Unit within a 20-bed Med/Surg Tele unit (split across two wings: 5A and 5B)
- Patient population includes general medical cases such as CHF, COPD, kidney/liver/GI/respiratory issues, CIWA patients, infections, and wound care; some surgical and other service line patients may also be admitted
- Patient ratio of 1:5
- Telemetry monitoring via bedside monitors with a central monitor at the nurses' station
- EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Omnicell
- Every other weekend rotation required
- 50% of contracted holidays required
- Floating within scope of practice to other hospital units may be required
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Level 1 Trauma Designated Academic Medical Center with 885 licensed beds, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center designations
- Unit support includes 1 CNA per wing, a charge nurse covering both 5A and 5B, 24/7 phlebotomy, respiratory therapy, hospitalist coverage, and resident coverage
- Short orientation consisting of NEO followed by 2 on-unit orientation shifts
- Schedule is built in 6-week increments; travelers are plugged into open shifts
- Up to 7 days of RTO may be approved during the contract
- Royal blue scrubs required
- Free parking available on-site
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Former permanent employees of any AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year before being considered
- First-time travelers will not be considered for this position
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
- Proficiency in trachs, chest tubes, IV starts, wound care, dressing changes, wound vacs, and drains required
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation experience required
- Central line blood draw experience required
- Experience with non-titrating drips including Heparin, Lasix, and Protonix required
- Experience with non-titrating drips including Cardizem and Amiodarone preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- One professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required for consideration
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
