Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg (Adult) day shift position in Maine, requiring a current ME or compact RN license and at least 1 year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Hospital Med/Surg unit serving an adult patient population
• Day shift schedule: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• 13-week contract
• Performs comprehensive age-appropriate nursing assessments, reassessments, and discharge planning
• Develops and implements individualized care plans based on patient needs and physician orders
• Administers and evaluates medications using the "five rights" protocol via med verify
• Participates in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and bedside rounding with hospitalists and case managers
• Conducts patient and family education and completes discharge planning including follow-up calls
• Actively contributes to hospital-wide Quality Improvement programs and department-specific initiatives
• Expected to participate in emergency and disaster preparedness planning and drills
• Onboarding begins with reporting to Human Resources on the first day
• Possible exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, toxic cleaning chemicals, and fumes

Requirements

• Active Maine RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• BSN preferred
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Current, unexpired BLS/BCLS required; ACLS preferred
• Required immunizations: Varicella (2 doses or titer), Hep B (3 doses, titer, or signed declination), MMR (2 doses or titer), Tdap, and PPD 2-step or titer within the past 12 months
• Flu vaccine required during flu season
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and pushing patients in wheelchairs and stretchers
• Visual and hearing acuity sufficient to assess patients
• Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and verbal/written communication skills
• DOB and SSN required for consideration
