Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position requiring a minimum of 2 years of NICU experience, with floating responsibilities to the adult population.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Level 3 NICU with 36 beds, typically serving 18–20 patients at a time
- Float coverage required to adult general and critical care populations in addition to NICU assignments
- 12-hour day and night shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
- 36 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation required
- Voluntary on-call available
- One major and one minor seasonal holiday required per facility policy
- EMR: Cerner
- Medication dispensing via Omnicell
- Patient monitoring via Spacelabs monitors
- Ventilators in use: PB 840, PB 980, Dräger VN500, LTV, and Airvo
- Oscillator: 3100A
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they meet the 2-year experience and EMR requirements
- New hires and travelers returning after 1+ year absence will complete 24 hours of classroom orientation followed by 24 hours of on-unit orientation; orientation for rehires is assessed based on last date of service
- Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
- Required documents for consideration include: 1 reference at charge nurse level or above from the past 12 months, copy of certifications, SSN, and DOB (day and month)
- Scrub color: Navy Blue

- Blackout dates during which RTO will not be approved include: MLK Jr. Day (1/15), Valentine's Day week (2/10–2/17), Spring Break week, Easter weekend (3/30–3/31), Mother's Day weekend, Memorial Day week (5/24–5/27), Father's Day weekend, Labor Day weekend (9/2–9/4), Halloween (10/30–10/31), Thanksgiving (11/22–11/25), and Christmas/New Year's (12/23–12/26 and 12/31–1/1)
- An interview is required as part of the offer process
Requirements
- Active AL or Compact RN license required
- Current BLS and NRP certifications required; ACLS/APLS preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Level 3 NICU experience required; candidates with only 1 year of experience will not be considered
- Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
- Experience with ground transports and Nitric Oxide administration required; transport experience preferred
- Ability to work independently in a Level 3 NICU setting, including as the sole NICU nurse on night shift
- Former permanent staff must have a 6-month gap in employment before being considered as a traveler
