Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position specializing in surgical and trauma patient care, with Epic proficiency and a minimum of 2 years of RN experience required.

Responsibilities

• Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• High-volume surgical patient population including exploratory laps, hemi-colectomies, mastectomies, lap cholecystectomies, eye surgeries, trauma surgeries, and plastic surgeries
• Lower-volume cases include GYN procedures (hysterectomy, myomectomy, etc.), palliative care, 24-hour observation, and medical overflow patients
• Patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Specialized skills required: rapid response team utilization, blood product administration, and peripheral IV line care and management
• Epic EMR experience is required
• Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend rotation required; holiday coverage as needed
• No on-call responsibilities
• Travelers may be floated to any campus within the health system as needed
• Specializes in the care of stable trauma and surgical patients across a variety of procedure types
• All RNs are required to pass a Pass/Fail EKG exam during compliance, regardless of specialty — two attempts are allowed and no study materials are provided by the facility
• Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply; those with a background in surgery or trauma are preferred
• Zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
• Orientation includes unit-based non-billable modules averaging 2–4 hours

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Proficiency in Epic EMR is mandatory
• Experience with dysrhythmia recognition and management required
• Experience with pre-op and post-op care of surgical patients required
• Skills required include blood product administration, peripheral IV insertion and management, central line care, and cardiac monitoring
• Two professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
• Copy of driver's license required for consideration
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible; no local candidates are accepted
