Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Acute Inpatient Rehab position requiring strong neuro skills and an active IL RN license.

Responsibilities

• Post-acute care hospital setting in the Acute Rehab Unit, a 29-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit
• Patient population includes neuro, neurosurgery, amputations, multi-trauma, cardiac, and complex medical cases (trachs, no vents)
• Patient ratios are 5:1 on days and 6:1 on nights; nurse aides are available at a 1:9-1:10 ratio
• Interdisciplinary rehab team includes PT, OT, and Speech Therapy
• Charting is done in Epic
• Telemetry packs may be used on the unit; RNs are not responsible for reading strips
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP/BiPAP (nighttime only for sleep apnea), nasal cannula, and high-flow nasal cannula (non-heated only)
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 12-hour shifts
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday rotation on an every-other basis
• Floating required to LTAC and Med-Surg; RNs will not float to the HAU unit unless trained
• No call or standby requirements
• RNs are required to attend team conferences as part of the acute inpatient rehab program
• Orientation consists of 2 days of classroom training followed by 2–3 days/nights with a preceptor; training includes QRP and rehab-specific documentation
• The unit is supervised by house supervisors; there are no charge nurses on the unit
• RNs do not titrate drips; only set-rate heparin drips are used
• Any color scrubs are acceptable; t-shirts are not permitted unless specifically approved
• Local candidates are accepted; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible for a local pay rate
• Epic EMR experience is relevant to this position

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required; facility is willing to wait if the application process has been initiated
• Current BLS certification (AHA) required; must be active at time of consideration
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Strong neuro nursing skills are essential
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility is a drug-free campus
