Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position requiring ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications, with 12-hour night shifts and telemetry monitoring skills.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting in a PCU/Stepdown unit with 28 beds
  • Patient population includes adults presenting through the ED with mixed medical/surgical, cardiac, and stroke diagnoses
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with patient care techs available at a 1:14 ratio
  • RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry monitoring independently; telemetry techs are available on the unit
  • RNs are required to titrate drips, including heparin, octreotide, and insulin, as well as administer maintenance IV medications
  • Specialty equipment available includes code carts, LUCAS machines, Hoyer lifts, and Sit-and-Stand devices
  • Charting is done in Epic
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700); 6-week scheduling block managed by unit schedulers
  • Every other weekend required
  • Holiday rotation shared with permanent staff
  • Float requirement to Med/Surg and other hospital areas, including ICU and ED, based on abilities
  • Charge nurse present on each shift and carries an assignment

Requirements

  • Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required — pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Epic EMR experience applicable to this PCU setting
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry monitoring independently
  • Driver's license required for consideration, used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Additional Information

  • This is a high-volume unit with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges — the facility is seeking team-oriented nurses who thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Unit support includes a unit secretary 2–3 days per week and a stocking clerk 3 days per week
  • Orientation consists of one week of classroom training followed by two 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
  • A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the assignment
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to termination of contract
  • Candidates who are currently or were recently (within the past year) employed full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity) are not eligible — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
