Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced CVOR RN for an evening-shift cardiovascular OR position requiring ACLS, BLS, and a minimum of 3-5 years of OR experience including trauma, ortho, and general surgery.

Responsibilities

• Acute care hospital setting with a cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) unit
• OR suite configuration includes 12 general OR suites, 1 dedicated CVOR suite, and 1 hybrid room
• Average of 14 cases per day across the OR
• General OR cases include orthopedics (total joints), gynecology, urology, trauma, ENT, general surgery, plastics, vascular, neurosurgery, and robotics (Da Vinci); transplants are not performed
• CVOR cases include open heart, valve procedures, thoracotomy, and trauma
• Travelers are not required to perform CVOR procedures unless specifically requested
• 1:1 patient ratio
• Charting system: Cerner SurgiNet
• GE Space Labs telemetry equipment in use
• Evening shift: 2:45pm–11:15pm (8-hour shifts)
• On-call is required; weekday call required 4–8 times per 4-week schedule (self-scheduled); call hours run from end of shift until 7:00am the following morning
• Two on-call teams: heart and regular
• 30-minute call response time required
• Every 4th weekend of call is required for the 3:00pm–11:00pm shift
• First to float policy applies, though floating to other units is not required — travelers are first to float within the OR
• Charge nurses and OR techs are available on the unit
• RT and pharmacy available 24/7
• Scrubs are provided by the facility
• Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts on the unit (12 orientation hours total)
• Holiday coverage is required for 1 major and 1 minor holiday in both summer and winter rotations
• The 11:00pm–7:00am shift requires the RN to work as the sole RN alongside one tech; candidates must be highly experienced and comfortable working in this capacity
• Scrubbing is not required of RNs but is preferred

Requirements

• Active CA RN license (Standard or Compact/NLC) required; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 3–5 years of OR nursing experience required
• Prior experience with trauma, orthopedic, and general surgery cases required
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Scrubbing not required but preferred
• Active driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must not have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
