Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an ICU/CCU position in Glendale, CA, requiring 2 years of experience, ACLS, and night shift availability with every-other-weekend commitment.
Responsibilities
- ICU/CCU setting within an acute care hospital
- 12-bed CCU and 12-bed ICU unit
- Patient population includes sepsis, CHF, COPD, vented patients, post-cath, lobectomies, thrombectomies, and spinal cases
- Patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2; spinal patients require 1:1 for first 6 hours
- Travelers are not assigned open heart or balloon pump patients
- Common drips include cardizem, propofol, amiodarone, dopamine, dobutamine, fentanyl, and midazolam
- Ventilator management required; no CRRT on the ICU side
- GE telemetry monitoring in use; RNs are expected to read and interpret cardiac strips
- EMR: Meditech (listed in unit notes); Cerner also referenced in position details
- 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
- Every-other-weekend requirement
- First to float; floating required between ICU and CCU, with possible float to telemetry (1:4 ratio) or ER if willing
- 13-week assignment
- Responsibilities include critical care nursing for ICU and CCU patient populations, including cardiac monitoring, drip management, and ventilator care
- Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
- Charge nurse on duty with no patient assignment; no nurse aides on unit
- Monitor techs available when census is high enough; RNs remain responsible for strip interpretation
- Unit orientation consists of 2–3 shifts; one additional orientation shift on tele and up to 3 shifts in the ER available if floating to those areas
- Holidays are worked in rotation with permanent staff
- Navy scrub color required
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health within the past year are not eligible; candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- Local candidates are accepted
Requirements
- Active CA RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and advanced EKG dysrhythmia course
- COVID vaccination required
- Minimum 2 years of ICU/CCU RN experience required
- BSN not required
- A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
