Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Inpatient Acute Rehab Unit position in Illinois, requiring strong neuro skills and an active IL RN license.
Responsibilities
- Post-acute care hospital setting, 29-bed Acute Rehab Unit
- Patient population includes neuro, neurosurgery, amputations, multi-trauma, cardiac, and complex medical cases (trachs, no vents)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios of 5:1 on days and 6:1 on nights; nurse aides available at a 1:9–10 ratio
- Heparin drips used; RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Telemetry packs are used on the unit but strips are not read by RNs
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP/BiPAP (nighttime/sleep apnea only), nasal cannula, and high-flow nasal cannula (non-heated)
- Multidisciplinary team includes PT, OT, and Speech Therapy
- RNs are required to attend team conferences for acute inpatient rehab
- House supervisors provide oversight; no charge nurses on unit
- Charting via Epic
- 12-hour shifts: days 7:00 AM–7:30 PM, nights 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday rotation on an every-other basis
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to LTAC and med-surg; float to HAU only if trained
- Orientation consists of 2 days of classroom instruction followed by 2–3 days/nights with a preceptor; orientation includes training on QRP and rehab-specific documentation
- Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility qualify for a local pay rate
- Any color scrubs are acceptable; t-shirts are not permitted unless specifically approved
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required (or confirmation that the application process has been initiated at time of consideration)
- Current BLS certification (AHA) required and must be active at time of consideration
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Strong neuro nursing skills required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility is a drug-free campus
