Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Pediatric Acute Care position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring active IL licensure and a minimum of 2 years of pediatric experience.

Responsibilities

• Acute care pediatric unit in a Level I Trauma Center
• 22-bed Pediatric Acute unit co-located with a 10-bed Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit, with the ability to flex into each other's beds based on census
• Patient population includes medical/surgical pediatric cases such as hyperbilirubinemia, neurological conditions, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, and orthopedic cases
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
• PCTs available on the unit at a ratio of approximately 1:8–10
• Monitored patients are supported by a dedicated Pediatric monitor tech who alerts caregivers to concerns
• RNs work with respiratory equipment including heated high-flow and BiPAP with specific parameters in place
• Charting system: Epic
• 13-week contract with 12-hour night shifts (1900–0730)
• Every other weekend required; nightshift weekend is Friday–Saturday
• Float requirement within the children's hospital to other pediatric units or mom/baby (baby assignments only); no ICU float unless experienced, no chemo patients
• Charge RN, Pediatric Crisis RN, and administrative supervisor support are available 24/7
• Hospitalist is in-house until approximately midnight with 24/7 resident coverage
• Orientation consists of 2 shifts and may be extended with management and unit educator approval
• Holiday coverage is required unless discussed and approved during the interview phase
• No mandatory on-call or standby requirement at this time
• Scrubs of any pediatric-appropriate color or pattern are permitted; scrub pants must be solid-colored; a solid-color long sleeve shirt or scrub jacket may be worn underneath
• Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may be subject to a local pay rate
• BSN is not required for this position

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required; pending licensure will not be accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA); pending certifications not accepted
• Active certifications must be in hand at time of consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Negative drug screen required; facility is a drug-free campus
