Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at a pediatric hospital in San Antonio, TX, requiring pediatric cardiac experience and TX or compact RN licensure.

Responsibilities

• Pediatric hospital setting in San Antonio, TX
• Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) unit serving a pediatric cardiac patient population
• Experience with chest tubes, pacing wires, mechanical ventilators, and vasoactive infusions required for this unit
• Day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• 13-week contract
• Provides nursing care using the full nursing process — assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation — for assigned pediatric cardiac patients
• Administers medications and treatments per protocol, monitoring for side effects and therapeutic effectiveness
• Addresses psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families
• Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided
• Assesses and addresses education needs of patients, families, and caregivers
• New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and must complete organizational entry and Critical Care department-specific competency validations
• New nurses orientation must be completed within the first 30 days
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel pay rates — local candidates are not accepted unless the position explicitly states otherwise
• New graduate RNs will be considered for this position

Requirements

• Active RN license in TX or holding a compact license
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required (AHA-issued only)
• Minimum 1 year of experience in a critical care setting
• Pediatric cardiac experience required, including chest tubes, pacing wires, ventilators, and vasoactive infusions
• BSN preferred
• US Social Security Number required for consideration
• Two professional references required for consideration
• Active copies of all certifications must be submitted — expired certifications will result in disqualification
