Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg travel assignment in Birmingham, AL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and an active AL or Compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Day shift position, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM
- 13-week contract
- Located on the 6 West Med/Surg unit of an acute care hospital in Birmingham, AL
- 24-bed unit with a patient ratio of 1:5 or 1:6
- Diverse adult medical and post-surgical patient population
- Telemetry monitoring performed on unit
- Procedures include IV placement, medication administration, PCA pumps, wound care, surgical drains, catheters, and chest tubes
- EMR: Epic
- Floating is required
- No on-call requirements
- Weekend hours vary
- Provide comprehensive medical/surgical nursing care to a diverse adult patient population
- Scrub color: Navy Blue; fleece is not permitted
- Charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical leadership experience is preferred
- Experience with high-volume patient turnover and multidisciplinary rounding is preferred
- Strong patient and family education skills are preferred
- Certifications must not be expired or set to expire within 30 days of the start date
Requirements
- Active AL RN license or Compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required (AHA accepted only; American Red Cross is not accepted)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg or acute care experience required
- Strong clinical assessment skills for diverse adult medical and post-surgical patients
- Proficiency with IV placement, medication administration, PCA pumps, wound care, surgical drains, catheters, and chest tubes
- Experience with telemetry monitoring
- Competency in EHR charting, including admission, transfer, and discharge workflows
- Strong time-management and organizational skills
- Ability to manage 4–6 patient assignments safely
- Proven ability to recognize and intervene in clinical deterioration
- SSN and DOB required for consideration
