Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg travel assignment in Birmingham, AL, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and an active AL or Compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Day shift position, 6:30 AM – 7:00 PM
• 13-week contract
• Located on the 6 West Med/Surg unit of an acute care hospital in Birmingham, AL
• 24-bed unit with a patient ratio of 1:5 or 1:6
• Diverse adult medical and post-surgical patient population
• Telemetry monitoring performed on unit
• Procedures include IV placement, medication administration, PCA pumps, wound care, surgical drains, catheters, and chest tubes
• EMR: Epic
• Floating is required
• No on-call requirements
• Weekend hours vary
• Provide comprehensive medical/surgical nursing care to a diverse adult patient population
• Scrub color: Navy Blue; fleece is not permitted
• Charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical leadership experience is preferred
• Experience with high-volume patient turnover and multidisciplinary rounding is preferred
• Strong patient and family education skills are preferred
• Certifications must not be expired or set to expire within 30 days of the start date

Requirements

• Active AL RN license or Compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS certification required (AHA accepted only; American Red Cross is not accepted)
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg or acute care experience required
• Strong clinical assessment skills for diverse adult medical and post-surgical patients
• Proficiency with IV placement, medication administration, PCA pumps, wound care, surgical drains, catheters, and chest tubes
• Experience with telemetry monitoring
• Competency in EHR charting, including admission, transfer, and discharge workflows
• Strong time-management and organizational skills
• Ability to manage 4–6 patient assignments safely
• Proven ability to recognize and intervene in clinical deterioration
• SSN and DOB required for consideration
