Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Step Down Intermediate position in St. Louis, MO, requiring at least 1 year of stepdown experience and strong trach/vent skills on a night shift schedule.

Details

  • Located on the 6 East Med/Surg Intermediate unit of a Level 2 Trauma Center and Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • 22-bed stepdown unit with a 1:3-4 patient ratio
  • Respiratory-heavy unit with a patient population that includes respiratory failure, COPD, ETOH, overdose, GI bleed, electrolyte imbalance, and cancer
  • Specialized equipment used includes tracheostomy (trach), ventilator (vent), VAPOTHERM (VAPO), and BiPAP
  • EMR: Epic
  • Night shift, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • 13-week contract
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required as needed to a similar or lower acuity unit

Requirements

  • Active RN license — must meet eligibility criteria for licensure in Missouri or hold a current MO or compact RN license
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • No certifications expiring within the first 30 days of the assignment unless documentation of scheduled renewal is provided
  • Minimum 1 year of recent inpatient stepdown experience required
  • Trach and vent experience required
  • Valid U.S. Social Security Number required — Canadian SINs are not accepted
  • No gaps in employment of 90+ days within the past 12 months

Additional Information

  • Responsibilities include direct patient care for all age groups, encompassing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation using the nursing process
  • Coordinates patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient comfort and outcomes
  • Physical demands include standing and walking for most of the shift, significant bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance, as well as pushing, pulling, and gripping up to 50 lbs.
  • High-risk exposure to blood and body fluids
  • Black scrubs required
  • Flu vaccination is required for assignments running November 1 – April 1; declinations and exceptions are not accepted
  • RTO of up to 5 days is allowed but must be made up during the assignment; only 1 holiday RTO request is permitted per assignment
  • Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are eligible but subject to a reduced bill rate
  • Candidates living within 50 miles are limited to 3 consecutive 13-week contracts at this facility; after that, a minimum 1-year separation or transfer to a facility outside the 50-mile radius is required
