Description

American Traveler is seeking a travel Ultrasound Technologist / Sonographer with 3+ years of experience for a weekend-focused 13-week contract in an acute care hospital setting.

Details

• Works in a Radiology/Ultrasound department within an acute care hospital (Trauma Level II)
• Department has 5 ultrasound rooms; candidate will primarily work out of one room
• General ultrasound position — exams include upper/lower extremity DVT, abdomen, appendix, pelvic/GYN, 1st and 3rd trimester OB (BPP, EFW, cord doppler, AFI, placental abruption, multiples), basic pediatric studies, scrotal, and thyroid
• Average of 8–10 scans/studies per day
• Charting via Epic; PACS system is Centricity UV PACS
• Equipment includes Philips Elite and Parks Flo Lab
• Radiologist is on-site from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM
• 12-hour day shifts on Saturday and Sunday, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, with the potential to fill in on weekdays as a last resort
• No floating to other departments
• No weekend or holiday requirements outside of the assigned Saturday/Sunday schedule
• No call requirement

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a general Ultrasound Technologist/Sonographer
• Current BLS (AHA) certification required
• RDMS (via ARDMS) required; RVT not required for this general ultrasound role
• Must be independent and competent in DVT studies, abdominal, OB, GYN, small parts, and basic pediatric ultrasound exams
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• License required if applicable

Additional Information

• Responsibilities include maintaining a clean and stocked exam room and performing the full range of general ultrasound studies assigned
• Orientation consists of 1–2 weeks of department-specific training followed by a single day of hospital orientation; initial training shifts may include days to allow exposure to more exams and protocols
• Occasional overnight call may be requested depending on monthly staffing needs — typically around 3 shifts, though the facility aims to minimize call obligations for travelers
• Candidate may be asked to assist in the OR in emergency situations during evening shifts on a rare basis
• A radiology supervisor/lead tech is present on each shift
• Scrubs are not provided but are required; any solid color is acceptable
• Local candidates are accepted for this position
