Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Medical-Surgical position at a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital, requiring at least 2 years of experience and an active IN or Compact RN license in hand.
Details
- Short-term acute care hospital setting with a high-acuity, fast-paced Medical-Surgical unit
- Post-operative patient population including Urology, GYN, GI, and Orthopedic cases, as well as some pre-op patients
- Patient ratio of 1:5–6
- Day shift schedule, 7:00–19:30 (3x12-hour shifts)
- Every other weekend required; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
- Floating within scope is expected, including to Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU levels of care at both University and Methodist Hospitals — refusal to float may result in contract termination
- No on-call requirements
- Charting in Cerner (experience required)
- Level 1 Trauma facility
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand — pending licensure will not be accepted
- Current BLS certification (AHA or RQI accepted)
- Minimum of 2 years of Med-Surg RN experience required
- Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Cerner EMR experience required
- Graduation from a university accredited by ACEN or CCNE required
- Charge nurse experience preferred
Additional Information
- Candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs, with training and resources provided
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Former permanent or PRN employees of IU Health must have been separated for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Indiana-licensed RNs are not eligible for Med-Surg positions at IU Health facilities
- This is a highly collaborative, team-oriented unit that expects travelers to be self-sufficient from day one
