Description

American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg position in Decatur, TX, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience with telemetry skills and a valid TX or compact RN license.

Details

• Located on the 4th and 5th floors of a 60-bed Med/Surg unit within a hospital main campus setting
• Patient ratios are 5:1 on the Med/Surg Specialty 4th Floor and 6:1 on the 5th Floor
• Common procedures include abdominal surgeries (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colectomy), paracentesis, thoracentesis, heart caths, run-offs, gastric sleeves, total hip/knee/shoulder replacements, and orthopedic trauma repairs
• Equipment used includes remote telemetry, capnography, Alaris IV pumps, glucometers, and dynamaps
• EMR system is Alterra (Allscripts)
• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend shifts are required; no on-call responsibilities
• Mandatory floating to inpatient rehab, ED, and PCU as needed; assignments will not exceed scope of practice

Requirements

• Active TX or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS); AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• Cardiac rhythm recognition and IV start skills preferred
• US SSN and date of birth required for consideration
• One professional reference required (candidates from Florida or Missouri must provide two)
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months

Additional Information

• Team structure includes a charge nurse per floor, RNs, LVNs, PCTs, and a unit secretary on day shift when staffing allows; night shift includes charge nurse, RNs, LVNs, and PCTs
• Ideal candidate is team-oriented, positive, and flexible, with strong time management skills
• Scrub color is currently black but transitioning to Medical City Blue
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not eligible for this position
