Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a travel RN for a Med/Surg position in Decatur, TX, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg experience with telemetry skills and a TX or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Night shift position, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• 13-week contract
• Med/Surg unit spanning the 4th and 5th floors of the main campus building, with 60 total beds
• Patient ratios are 5:1 on the 4th floor Med/Surg Specialty unit and 6:1 on the 5th floor Med/Surg unit
• Common procedures include abdominal surgeries (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, colectomy), diagnostic procedures, paracentesis, thoracentesis, heart catheterizations, run-offs, gastric sleeves, total hip/knee/shoulder replacements, and orthopedic trauma repairs
• Equipment used includes remote telemetry, capnography, Alaris IV pumps, glucometers, and Dynamaps
• EMR is Alterra (Allscripts)
• Weekend shifts are required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Mandatory floating as needed to inpatient rehab, ED, and PCU — assignments will not exceed the traveler's skill level or scope of practice
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not eligible
• Team structure includes a charge nurse per floor on each shift, along with RNs, LVNs, PCTs, and a unit secretary on day shift when staffing grid allows
• Ideal candidates are team-oriented, positive, and flexible
• Scrubs are currently black, with a transition to Medical City Blue anticipated

Requirements

• Active TX RN license or a valid compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) — all must be from AHA or ARC and must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• Preferred skills include cardiac rhythm recognition and IV starts
• US SSN and date of birth (DOB) required for consideration — no Canadian SSNs accepted
• One professional reference required
• No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
