Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Med/Surg Neuro unit position requiring at least 2 years of experience, telemetry skills, and a NC or compact RN license.

Details

• Hospital-based Med/Surg Neuro unit with a 42-patient daily census across 43 beds
• Patient population includes stroke, neurosurgery, epilepsy, traumatic and non-traumatic subdural hematomas, and other neurological diagnoses
• Unit includes a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU); traveler participation in EMU care is not typical unless trained
• Patient ratio is 1:6
• 12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
• 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Travelers are required to work every other weekend
• Floating required to other Med/Surg and Telemetry areas, which may include COVID care units
• EMR system: Epic (required); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication framework
• 13-week contracts; longer contracts may be considered

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience, including at least 1 year of direct Med/Surg experience
• Med/Surg Neuro experience required
• Proficient in IV starts, telemetry monitoring, and interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
• Required certifications: BLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• ACLS preferred but not required
• Must have completed at least 2 prior travel nursing contracts; first-time travelers will not be considered

• Scrub color requirement: navy
• Unit orientation is 36 hours
• Local candidates are accepted
• If a shift is missed, the traveler is expected to make up that shift within the same week or at the end of the contract
• RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged onsite; excessive call-offs or RTO may result in contract cancellation
• If approved RTO includes weekends, those weekend shifts must be made up and the contract end date will be extended accordingly
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed
