Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg - Urology/Nephrology position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital in Springfield, IL, with charge nurse responsibilities and a valid IL RN license required.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting — Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated facility with 562 staffed beds
  • Med/Surg unit specializing in Urology/Nephrology with an average daily census of 23 on a 25-bed unit
  • Patient population includes renal failure, pre/post hemodialysis, genitourinary cases, and complex medical/surgical patients
  • Procedures and skills utilized include telemetry remote monitoring, rapid response team activation, chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, blood product administration, PICC line management, central line blood draws, peripheral IV care, heparin administration, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
  • Night shift: 3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–07:15
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating to other Med/Surg units required as needed
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Charting via Cerner EMR

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license currently in hand or actively in the application process
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
  • Prior experience in a Med/Surg or Med/Surg Telemetry setting required
  • Telemetry and remote monitoring experience required
  • Experience with genitourinary/renal cases including pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure
  • Proficiency with IV therapy including PICC line management, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, and starting IVs
  • Experience with heparin administration
  • Respiratory care experience including chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, and non-invasive airway management
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • 2 professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
  • Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Will serve as Charge Nurse as needed during the assignment
  • First-time travelers are welcome — candidates should demonstrate a solid RN foundation with 2+ years of Med/Surg experience
  • Local candidates are accepted with no radius restriction
  • RTO requests should ideally not exceed 5 days for the contract period — all time off requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
  • Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
  • Free parking is available with a permit obtained during orientation
