Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring at least 2 years of experience, ACLS/BLS certifications, and a WV or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care telemetry unit (PCU/Tele) in a hospital setting spanning two floors with a combined 42 beds (private and semi-private rooms)
• Patient population includes elevated troponin, active chest pain, NSTEMI, post-STEMI (after ICU recovery), pre/post cardiac cath with and without intervention, pacers, peritoneal dialysis, and occasional oncology or post-surgical overflow
• Patient ratio of 1:5 on both day and night shift
• Philips cardiac monitors used throughout the unit; nurses are required to read and document telemetry strips every 4 hours
• Common drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, Integrilin (per protocol), and Nitroglycerin (set-rate only — no titrating drips)
• BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow oxygen managed by Respiratory Therapy
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 36 or 48 hours per week
• Rotating weekends (Friday/Saturday nights every other weekend)
• Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs
• Floating is rare but may occur to ICU overflow, Tele, or Ortho/Med-Surg
• Hospitalist in-house 24/7; RT and pharmacy in-house 24/7 with pharmacy on-unit during the day (Omnicell)

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current AHA certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• BSN not required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to qualify
• A valid, unexpired driver's license is required for consideration
• COVID vaccination required; medical or religious exemption requests must be submitted for approval

• Nurses perform telemetry strip documentation every 4 hours, exporting and charting rhythm interpretations directly in Epic
• Charge nurse structure varies — may be a floating charge covering both floors or a dedicated charge per floor; charge nurses carry a full patient assignment
• PCT support targets 3 per floor when fully staffed, though coverage may vary
• Opportunities for precepting and charge nurse experience
• EKG testing (pass/fail) is required for this unit
• 1–2 orientation shifts provided depending on experience
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs; navy or white jacket; white or navy undershirt; natural hair color only (no pink, purple, or blue); distasteful tattoos must be covered
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before being considered
• Candidates may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
