Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Medical Oncology PCU position at a high-acuity telemetry unit, requiring strong progressive care experience and a valid OH or compact RN license.
Details
- 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU-level care, located within a larger cancer hospital and research center
- Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
- High-acuity PCU patient population with a smaller med/surg component; heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
- Patient ratios: 1:3 for PCU and 1:4-5 for med/surg telemetry
- Specialized equipment includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, bladder scanner, Stryker beds, and continuous bladder irrigation
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
- Day/night rotating contracts may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination based on department needs, reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
- Self-scheduling requests are submitted prior to final schedule posting
- Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
Requirements
- Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
- Current certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 2 years of high-acuity PCU experience required
- Oncology experience preferred but not required; pediatric experience is not required
- Proficiency in dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team utilization, and central/PICC/peripheral line care and management
- Skilled in blood product administration, port access, feeding tube care, heparin protocols, and cardiac drip management (including titration)
- Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
- PCA pump management experience required
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
Additional Information
- Orientation consists of the first week Monday–Friday on day shift, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
- Pediatric patients are rarely present on this unit and are typically cared for by permanent staff; agency RNs are not expected to manage pediatric cases
- Preferred skills include chemotherapy administration and monitoring, arterial line management, IV insulin/insulin drip titration, wound care/wound vac, surgical drains, non-invasive airway management, and phlebotomy
- There is no required break between assignments when changing representation at this facility (except for Sterile Processing Techs, which still require a 30-day break)
- 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years are required for consideration
- Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
- All time-off and scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of initial consideration
