Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Stepdown (CVU) night shift position at a Level I Trauma facility, requiring at least 1 year of cardiac/stepdown experience and active ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Details
- Acute care stepdown unit (CVU) in a Level I Trauma hospital setting
- 18-bed unit serving patients requiring intermediate cardiac care, including downgraded CVICU patients, thoracic program, EP, cath lab, structural heart, CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and other cardiac and vascular diagnoses
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours
- RNs are required to titrate drips, including amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
- RT available 24/7; respiratory equipment in use includes BiPAP, CPAP, and nasal cannula
- Remote tele techs available; RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips — unit has hardwired and tele box capabilities
- EMR: Epic experience required
- 12-hour night shifts; shift times are 1830–0700
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating required to units of the same or lower acuity level
- Charge nurse present each shift and rarely takes a patient assignment
- Nurse aides/patient care techs on unit at a 1:18 ratio
- Hospitalist and intensivist in-house 24/7; cardiology on call after hours
Requirements
- Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses not accepted
- Required certifications (active, not pending): BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience, with at least 1 year of experience with cardiac/stepdown patient population
- BSN not required
- Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Unit is currently under crisis protocol staffing
- Orientation is tailored to individual experience; typically 1–2 shifts on unit, with a pass/fail open-book exam on the first Friday of orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to continue
- Scrub color: Navy blue
- Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them may result to contract termination
- Schedule is managed by the unit manager; no block or self-scheduling
- RTO must be submitted upfront; no more than 7 days per 13-week contract, and no additional RTO will be approved after submission
- Candidates who were previously employed directly (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; those placed PRN through an outside staffing firm may be considered
