Details

  • Off-campus Emergency Department (OCED) setting with 10-12 ED beds and 7-10 additional hall treatment spaces, budgeted for approximately 60 patients per day
  • Patient population spans neonates to geriatrics, with approximately 25% pediatric cases, including walk-in traumas, cardiac, neuro, GI, respiratory, psych, and GSW patients
  • RNs are responsible for managing ventilated and BiPAP patients, as there is no onsite Respiratory Therapy; ventilator and BiPAP training is provided during orientation
  • Standard patient ratio is 1:4; fast track team nurse ratio is 1:6 (with LPN and NP support)
  • Charting is performed in Epic; Alaris pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing systems are used
  • RNs mix their own medications under remote pharmacy supervision via video conference
  • Shift is 12-hour nights, 36 hours per week; NOC start times are 1500 or 1900
  • Alternating weekend rotation and negotiable holiday coverage
  • Assigned a primary OCED location, but floating to other OCED sites is expected as needed

Requirements

  • Active WA state or compact RN license required
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIHSS, and TNCC
  • Minimum 2 full years of ER experience required (any trauma level)
  • Strong skills in IV placement, medication administration, chest tube and central line management
  • Traveler Telemetry Competency exam must be completed and passed prior to start
  • At least one supervisor-level reference (Charge Nurse, Manager, Director, or above) required for consideration; a second reference will be required prior to start

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply

  • Charge nurse responsibilities are expected; training will be provided if needed
  • LPNs on staff assist with low-acuity assignments, procedures, and medication administration within their scope; EST/phlebotomy support is available but RN blood draws are common
  • Charge nurse takes a partial patient assignment and is available to float and provide breaks in the afternoon
  • Floating between OCED sites may occur mid-shift; travel time is compensated and travelers are notified before the shift when a float is required
  • Schedules are built on a 6-week cycle; block scheduling is not guaranteed
  • RTO of up to 5 days may be approved; requests exceeding 5 days require manager approval
  • Scrubs may be any color; parking is free
