  • 25-bed Med/Surg Tele unit on the 4th Floor North, specializing in neuro patients
  • Patient population includes strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; CNAs/patient care techs available at a 1:10-20 ratio
  • Telemetry techs interpret strips; RNs are expected to have general tele awareness
  • RNs are required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; PCA pumps also used
  • Charting performed in Epic (experience required)
  • 12-hour night shifts (1830–0700)
  • Every other weekend required
  • 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg areas or units holding Med/Surg patients
  • Limited block scheduling available; travelers are otherwise scheduled by the unit

Requirements

  • Active NE or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Med/Surg Tele experience required; neuro experience strongly preferred
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • A driver's license is required for consideration and is used to verify the candidate resides more than 50 miles from the facility
  • Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • No active license or background issues permitted

Additional Information

  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; a driver's license will be used to verify permanent address
  • Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • RNs must pass an open-book skills exam with a score of 90% or higher during orientation — failure to pass results in contract termination
  • Orientation consists of 2 days of unit-specific orientation plus a 12-hour general orientation
  • Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas
  • Unit is high-volume with frequent admissions and discharges; strong time management and organizational skills are essential for success
  • Mechanical lifts available in every other patient room
  • Strong emphasis on hourly rounding and patient responsiveness
  • Unit serves a culturally diverse patient population, including Spanish-, Karen-, and Burmese-speaking patients
  • Charge nurses are present on each shift and carry their own patient assignment
  • Travel experience is preferred but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
