Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Family Birthing Center / Labor & Delivery position in Santa Fe, NM, requiring an NM or Compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience.

Details

• Family Birthing Center (FBC) / Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting
• Antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum/newborn patient population
• Manages high-acuity obstetric cases including preeclampsia, PTL, placental abruption, PPROM, vaginal bleeding, and emergency deliveries
• Newborn care includes hearing screens, lab draws, IV starts, medication administration, phototherapy, hypoglycemia management, opiate withdrawal care, and stabilization for transport
• Administers medications including Pitocin, misoprostol, methergine, hemabate, mag sulfate, terbutaline, labetalol, nifedipine, hydralazine, and insulin
• Epic EMR used; on-site training available for those without prior Epic experience
• 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730, 3 days per week (36 hours/week)
• Floating between departments and/or local locations within 20 miles is required

Requirements

• Active RN license in the State of New Mexico or a Compact State license currently in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS (through AHA, AHSI, or ARC), NRP, and AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring
• Minimum of an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN or ASN)
• Minimum of 2 years of current L&D / FBC nursing experience required
• English language proficiency (speaking, reading, and writing) required

Additional Information

• Responsibilities span the full continuum of perinatal care: triage assessment using obstetric acuity tools, labor and fetal evaluation, preparation for vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and postpartum and newborn care
• Must stabilize patients with emergency medical conditions for delivery or transfer to a higher level of care as needed
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
• Former permanent staff of this health system must have a one-year gap before being considered as a traveler; prior employment with the system will be verified
• A Basic Cardiac Arrhythmia (BCA) competency test is administered during the first week of the assignment; failure to pass may result in dismissal
