Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position at a Level 1 Trauma facility, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and EVD experience.

Details

  • 32-bed Neuro ICU within a Level 1 Trauma acute care hospital setting, affiliated with the world's largest neurological disease treatment and research institution
  • Patient population includes critical care patients with neurological diagnoses; common cases include craniotomies, brain tumor removal and ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 in the Neuro ICU; ratio increases to 4:1 when floating to telemetry
  • Phillips monitors and ventilators are in use on the unit
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy support available 24/7
  • Charting is performed in Cerner
  • 12-hour day shifts (7am–7pm)
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week period
  • Holiday coverage follows core staff rotation
  • Floating is required to all ICU floors and telemetry units; travelers are first to float
  • May be placed on standby for a scheduled shift

Requirements

  • Active AZ or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses will not be accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications will not be accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a large hospital (450+ beds) required
  • Level 1 Trauma center experience required
  • EVD (external ventricular drain) experience required
  • Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP monitoring experience required
  • 3–6 months of prior travel nursing experience required
  • Driver's license required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, each including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address

Additional Information

  • Provide critical care nursing to neurological patients, including neuro assessments and ICP monitoring
  • Orientation consists of 2 shifts on the floor
  • All RN travelers must complete a SIMs Lab covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; SIMs Lab is pass/fail and competency in sterile field technique is essential
  • A pass/fail exam on sterile technique is administered on Day 1 of orientation
  • A Relias Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam must be passed prior to offer confirmation; candidates have 2 attempts
  • Additional orientation modules cover lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational, not pass/fail)
  • Steel grey scrubs are required for Neuro floors
  • Natural hair color and no facial piercings are required; men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
  • Candidates must have access to their own vehicle
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates previously employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • First-time travelers are not eligible for this position, as prior travel experience is required
