Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Level III Trauma Center in West Virginia, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ER experience and a prior completed travel assignment.

Details

• Level III Trauma Center Emergency Department with 21 beds, including 1 trauma/resuscitation bay and 4 behavioral health safe rooms
• High volume unit seeing approximately 55 patients per day with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Common patient population includes psychiatric cases, chronic COPD, CHF, and respiratory conditions; walk-in traumas and STEMIs are occasionally seen
• No fast track; ER holds are uncommon but RNs are responsible for patients when holds occur
• Charting system: Epic
• Primary need is night shift (7p–7a); off-shift options (11p–11a or 3p–3a) may be requested on occasion
• 12-hour shifts available at 7a, 11a, 3p, and 7p start times
• Every-other-weekend requirement (equivalent), typically Friday, Saturday, or Sunday nights
• Holiday coverage is only required if core staff cannot fill the need
• On-call requirements are rare; when needed, requests are made via the 'Crew' app
• Floating outside the ER is uncommon; if census is high, travelers may assist upstairs in a limited capacity
• RNs are responsible for drawing their own labs unless additional phlebotomy support is needed
• RNs read telemetry strips; a unit clerk monitors screens and is being trained
• Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7 and performs ABGs and breathing treatments
• CT and X-ray are located within the ER; radiology transports patients as needed

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS
• TNCC preferred
• Minimum 2 years of emergency department experience required
• At least 1 prior successfully completed travel assignment required
• Critical care background preferred but not required
• Experience with triage and ESI scoring preferred
• BSN not required
• Valid, unexpired driver's license required for consideration
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Any licensing disciplinary history must be disclosed

Additional Information

• 2-shift precepted orientation provided
• Provider coverage includes up to 4 providers (2 physicians, 2 PAs) on weekdays and up to 3 providers (1 physician, 2 PAs) on weekends
• Security is contracted and primarily calls local police for enforcement situations
• Candidates who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken at least a 2-year break before being eligible to return
• Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than one cumulative year before taking a 2-year break
• Submission profile should include 7 years of work history (or from graduation, whichever is less) with no gaps greater than 30 days, 2 professional references (including 1 supervisor), a skills checklist completed within the past year, and copies of certifications and driver's license
