Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a MedSurg/Tele/Oncology position requiring a CA RN license, telemetry experience, and night shift availability.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting on a 27-bed MedSurg/Telemetry/Oncology unit (2W) with 13 private and 14 semi-private rooms
  • Patient population includes acute and chronic medical conditions, post-surgical patients (including total joints), urology, GYN, podiatry, general surgery, and potential stroke patients
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 for tele patients and 1:5 for MedSurg patients; mixed teams maintain a 1:4 ratio
  • Remote telemetry monitoring using Philips equipment; RNs are required to read, interpret, and sign off on telemetry strips
  • Heparin drips administered on this unit; no cardiac drips
  • CPAP and BiPAP respiratory support available per RT and MD order; no ventilators on this unit
  • CNAs available based on census
  • Charting via Cerner (experience preferred)
  • 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Every-other-weekend (EOW) requirement; weekends for nights are Friday and Saturday
  • 4 weekend shifts required per 4-week schedule
  • Travelers are first to float; floating possible to other MedSurg/Tele units, ICU (for MedSurg Tele patients), and ER (for MedSurg Tele holds) at a sister facility approximately 6.5 miles away
  • No on-call requirement, but standby for low census is possible with a 30-minute response time if called in
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active CA RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA or APEX); pending certifications are not accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Comfort and experience with post-surgical and total joint patient populations required
  • Cerner EMR experience preferred
  • A driver's license copy is required for consideration
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

  • Shift huddles held at the start of each shift (0700 and 1900)
  • 1–2 shifts of orientation with a preceptor provided
  • Holiday coverage required for at least 1 major and 1 minor holiday
  • Navy blue scrubs required; undershirts must be navy, white, or black; scrub jackets must be navy; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets permitted
  • Unit is supported by a house supervisor in-house 24/7, a nurse manager during business hours, and nurse shift managers and/or charge and break nurses each shift
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside firms will be considered
