Details
- ICU Float Pool position covering Zone 1 (Colorado Springs, CO area) — a combination ICU environment including MICU, SICU, TICU, and CVICU
- This is a float pool role with no home base facility; the specific assignment location varies each schedule period and will be communicated prior to the start of each schedule
- Float zone includes multiple acute care hospital campuses within approximately 60 miles of the Colorado Springs city center
- Acute care setting with a general combination ICU patient population
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1–2 depending on acuity; high-acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, IABP, Impella) are staffed 1:1; may be asked to flex up to 1:3
- RNs are expected to titrate all critical drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and insulin
- Respiratory equipment in use includes ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and breathing treatments; RNs are expected to assist in troubleshooting and managing respiratory needs
- No monitor techs on unit; RNs are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- No nurse aides on unit except for sitter needs
- Designated charge nurse on each unit who typically does not take a patient assignment, though night shift charge nurses may take a small patient assignment when necessary
- 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a
- 6–9 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule
- Schedule is set by leadership for 6-week blocks; travelers are expected to be flexible in filling scheduling gaps
- May be asked to float to other acuity levels within Zone 1, including PCU/Stepdown and MS-Tele
- Epic EMR is used in this position
- 13-week contract
Requirements
- Active CO RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted
- Current AHA certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — pending certifications are not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required
- First-time travelers must have 3+ years of ICU experience and prior Epic experience
- Proficiency with titrating critical drips and managing ventilated patients required
- Candidates must permanently reside at least 60 miles from the Colorado Springs city center (driver's license used to verify permanent address)
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Driver's license required for consideration
Additional Information
- Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows them to respond to any facility within the full 60-mile float zone
- Candidates must be physically present in Colorado for the week of orientation, even if initial modules are completed remotely
- Orientation consists of 1–2 days with a preceptor (approximately 12 orientation hours total)
- All time-off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment
- May be included in the holiday rotation
- On-call requirements are rare and typically only for low-census situations
- Scrubs of any color are acceptable
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit or affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity Health) within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
