Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Progressive Care Unit position requiring strong vasoactive drip and arterial line experience, with night shift availability and every other weekend commitment.

Details

• Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting functioning at an ICU-stepdown level
• 18-bed unit (ADC: 18) caring for a diverse patient population including post-rapid response, respiratory distress, unstable hemodynamics, withdrawal, GI bleeds, post-op (GYN, GU, GI, thoracotomies, neuro, ortho), pre/post OB with complications (Pitocin), and withdrawal patients
• Patient age range spans adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
• Target nurse-to-patient ratio of 3:1 or 4:1
• Night shift: 12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM (3x12 hours per week)
• 36 or 48 hours per week available
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required as needed to sister ICCU unit
• Vasoactive drips administered on unit include Cardizem, Nitro, Precedex, Cardene, Levophed, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Neo (one pressor drip per patient maximum; additional pressors require ICU transfer)
• Special equipment includes bedside telemetry monitors with remote backup, A-lines, BiPAP, chest tubes, and tracheostomies (no ventilators on unit)
• EMR: Epic; medication dispensing via Pyxis
• No block scheduling; schedule is created by the nurse manager
• 13-week contract minimum

Requirements

• Active NC RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown unit experience required
• Strong vasoactive drip titration and arterial line experience required
• Required clinical skills: telemetry monitoring and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central line and PICC line care/management, peripheral line care/management, heparin protocols, CVA management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), tracheostomy management, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and use of rapid response teams
• IV insertion experience required
• Conscious sedation experience required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start

• Unit operates more like an ICU — strong critical care skill set is essential
• Hospital orientation occurs during week one; attendance is required each day
• No RTO (time off requests) permitted after booking — any call-offs may result in contract cancellation
• Scrub colors: navy, white, or a combination of the two
