Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a high-volume, fast-paced Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and demonstrated experience in a setting with over 300 births per month.
Details
- High-acuity Labor & Delivery unit within a hospital setting, including an obstetrical triage unit and a high-risk Special Maternity Care unit
- Patient population includes obstetrical patients at 16 weeks gestation and greater for intrapartum, high-risk antepartum, and postpartum care, as well as high-risk patients under 16 weeks on the high-risk maternity unit
- Unit performs scheduled and unscheduled Cesarean births, rescue cervical cerclage, antenatal fetal surveillance, IV hydration, and medication administration via triage
- Patient ratio is 2:1; unit averages 20 births per 24 hours, 30–40 admissions per day, and 40 visits per day across 20 rooms
- Double labor assignments are a daily occurrence on this unit
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Minimum every other weekend required, with at least 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Float required as needed, including potentially to an affiliate hospital nearby, based on skill set and census — no float restrictions accepted
- No on-call requirement
- Unit uses Epic, Pyxis, and SBAR
- 13–26 week contract lengths accepted
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required (must be in hand at time of start)
- Current certifications required: BLS, AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP; C-EFM accepted in lieu of AWHONN; AWHONN Advanced preferred
- Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required; 3 years preferred
- Experience in a high-volume setting with more than 300 births per month required
- Proficiency in circulating for C-sections (strongly preferred), sterile vaginal exams, and immediate newborn care
- Epic charting experience required
- Comfortable with a 2:1 patient ratio in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Two manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months required at time of start (highly preferred at time of consideration)
Additional Information
- First-time travelers are accepted, but must have experience in a large, high-volume L&D setting
- Responsibilities include intrapartum and antepartum care, obstetrical triage, C-section circulation, pain assessment and management, IV therapy, telemetry interpretation, and neonatal emergency response
- Orientation is 24 hours; non-billable modules must be completed prior to start
- Blue scrubs are provided by the facility
- Candidates whose permanent address is within 50 miles of the facility will be offered a local pay rate — local candidates are accepted
- Former permanent, PRN, or EP staff of Novant Health or New Hanover must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required before any offer can be extended
- Current travel Per Diem clinicians working at Novant Health or New Hanover are not eligible for a simultaneous travel contract assignment
- RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged onsite; no RTO is allowed during the first week of assignment (orientation); candidates must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO requests exceeding 7 days require facility approval
- Travelers may not work more than 5 consecutive days or more than 60 hours in a single week
