Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU/Stepdown) position in Council Bluffs, IA, requiring telemetry strip interpretation and at least 2 years of experience.

Details

• Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a Level 3 trauma hospital setting
• 22-bed unit with a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio and 1:10 nurse aide-to-patient ratio
• Common patient diagnoses include heart failure, A-fib, respiratory distress, and stroke
• RNs are required to titrate drips, including Cardizem, amiodarone, and nitroglycerin
• RNs must independently read and interpret telemetry strips
• CPAP equipment is present on the unit; RNs are expected to troubleshoot as needed
• EMR: Epic experience required
• 12-hour day shifts (0630–1900) and night shifts (1830–0700) available; cyclic scheduling
• Every other weekend required
• One major and one minor holiday coverage required
• Floating to the ICU may be required for candidates with appropriate ICU experience
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active IA or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS; pending certifications are not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Telemetry strip reading and interpretation skills required
• Experience titrating IV drips required
• Driver's license required for consideration and used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire

Additional Information

• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
• Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
• Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift on the unit
• A pass/fail open-book exam is administered during orientation; a minimum score of 90% is required to continue the assignment
• All RTO must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
• Fast-paced unit with high admission and discharge volume; successful candidates demonstrate a positive attitude, strong teamwork, and a patient-centered approach
