Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a night shift travel position at an acute care hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and AHA-issued ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NIHSS certifications.

Details

  • General Emergency Department (combined adult/pediatric) setting within a 304-bed acute care hospital
  • Non-trauma Emergency Department with STEMI and Stroke certification
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Night shift, 7p–7a, scheduled as 3x12s or 4x12s
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Travelers may be required to float between the Downtown and Northeast campuses based on census and staffing needs
  • Charting is performed in Epic (experience required)
  • Relevant clinical skills include IV therapy/phlebotomy, arterial line management, central line care, blood product administration, procedural sedation, IV vasopressors, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, 12-lead EKG/ECG, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube management, triage, and isolation precautions/PPE
  • Patient populations include neurological, orthopedic, psychiatric, respiratory, pediatric, and shock/trauma cases

Requirements

  • Active SC RN license or Compact RN license — must be in hand prior to start date
  • Required certifications (AHA-issued): ACLS, BLS, NIHSS, and PALS
  • Preferred certifications: NRP and TNCC
  • Minimum 1 year of ER RN experience
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • 2 professional supervisor references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
  • Driver's License required for consideration
  • SSN required for consideration
  • Community hospital experience preferred
  • Prior charge nurse experience preferred

Additional Information

  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates who were previously employed (including PRN) at any MUSC location must have been separated from the system for at least 1 year before being eligible to work as a traveler
  • Candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility are considered local and may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be disclosed at the time of consideration — requests submitted afterward will not be accepted
  • Orientation modules are completed prior to the start date and average approximately 4 hours
  • Royal blue and white scrubs are required for the ER department
  • Free parking is available via parking lots and garages; a parking pass is distributed at badge pickup
  • Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season (June–November), all staff and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams — peak activity months are August and September
