Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry float pool position supporting an ED Holding unit, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and active NC or compact RN license.
Details
- ED Inpatient (EDIP) holding unit located within the Emergency Department, serving adult patients awaiting inpatient bed placement
- Patient population includes any adult medical/surgical diagnoses, with potential for PCU-level acuity patients
- Target patient ratios are 1:6 for MS/Tele patients and 1:4 for PCU-level patients
- Float pool position with expected floating to ED and Med/Surg areas as needed
- Night shift, 18:45–07:15 (3x12-hour shifts, 36 hours/week)
- Every other weekend required
- Manager-created schedule
- EMR: Epic; Medication dispensing: Pyxis; Communication framework: SBAR
- Standard equipment in use includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and other monitoring systems
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Proficiency in MS/Tele nursing, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, and both on-unit and remote telemetry monitoring
- Experience with the following skills required: colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, renal failure management, blood product administration, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, isolation precautions, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula and oxygen mask use, portable oxygen, oral suctioning, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management, and use of Rapid Response Teams
- Must pass an EKG competency test prior to start
Additional Information
- Preferred skills include NIHSS certification, IV insulin protocol experience, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draw, IV starts, and experience with CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, TBI, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac
- Unit orientation is 12 hours
- Navy scrubs required
- High acuity, mixed patient population; all candidates will be interviewed due to high acuity
- Contract staff are assigned to a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Mid-contract consolidation to a centralized office may occur, with possible reassignment to other units as needed
- Local candidates are accepted
- First-time travelers are not required to have prior travel experience
- RTO requests are not accepted after booking; call-offs or unapproved time off may result in contract cancellation
- Maximum of 7 days RTO for the duration of the contract
