Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level 1 Trauma ICU position at a large academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience and proficiency with ventilator management and vasoactive medications.

Details

  • Medical ICU setting within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital designated as both a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • 14-bed MICU unit caring for complex medical patients including those with respiratory failure, renal failure, sepsis, GI bleed, DKA, stroke, ARDS, and hemodynamic instability
  • Patient population includes chronic ventilator and trach patients as well as hemodynamically unstable patients requiring invasive monitoring
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1–2 (up to 1:3 in rare circumstances), with CNA support of 1–2 per shift
  • Common procedures and skills include trach care, chest tube management, arterial and central line monitoring, ICP monitoring, ventilator management, and management of vasoactive/insulin/heparin drips
  • EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
  • Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Belmont Rapid Infuser, TABLO, and PCA pain management devices
  • 12-hour day shifts, 7A–7P, with scheduling on a 6-week cycle
  • Weekend rotation of approximately 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
  • No on-call or callback requirements
  • Floating required to all adult ICU units and PCU

Requirements

  • Active GA or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • CCRN certification preferred but not required
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Level 1 Trauma and academic teaching hospital experience required
  • Proficiency in ventilator management, vasoactive medication management, and invasive line monitoring (arterial lines, CVLs, ICP monitoring)
  • Experience with trach care, chest tube management, and titrated drips (vasopressors, insulin, heparin)
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Care for critically ill medical ICU patients, managing complex diagnoses and hemodynamic instability with invasive monitoring and ventilatory support
  • Department support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on unit 7A–11P, house-wide after hours), charge nurse, respiratory therapy (24/7), hospitalist (24/7), intensivist (24/7), PICC team, discharge nurses, and a central telemetry monitoring unit
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required — travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays, including one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, 12/31 or 1/1)
  • RTO requests require manager approval
  • Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted — no radius rule applies; local travelers receive the same rate
