Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring at least 2 years of Med/Tele experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

  • 12-hour night shifts, 7p–7a, 36 hours per week
  • Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital that includes a Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center
  • Patient population includes acute and chronic illness, common co-morbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, A-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
  • RN-to-patient ratio of 1:4–6; supported by LPNs (1:4–6) and CNAs (up to 1:14)
  • Telemetry skills required: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath care, TR band management, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
  • Required drip management includes insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine; titration for HR only (not BP)
  • Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, glucommander, patient education, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary care coordination
  • EMR: Epic (experience required); IV pump: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis; monitors: Philips; VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova Glucose Stat Strips also in use
  • Weekend rotation: 5–6 shifts out of every 12 shifts on a 6-week schedule
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Travelers will be assigned to a float pool and required to float to all Med/Tele units within the facility as needed

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license currently in hand
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • EKG competency exam must be passed during onboarding
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Department support includes CNAs, a unit secretary (on-unit 7a–11p, then house-wide 11p–7a), charge nurse, discharge nurses, a resource team, PICC team, central telemetry monitoring/tech, and 24/7 RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
  • Holiday coverage expectation: travelers work one shift of each major holiday period — Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
  • RTO requests must be submitted through and approved by the manager
  • RN scrub color: Navy
  • Med/Surg certification is a plus
  • Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
  • Local candidates are accepted; no radius rule applies — the same rate applies for local travelers
