Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital in Macon, GA, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience.
Details
- Inpatient Med/Surg Telemetry units within a 637-licensed-bed, Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital that is also a designated Chest Pain and Stroke Center
- Each Med/Surg unit has 20–36 beds
- Patient population includes acute and chronic disease, common comorbidities (diabetes, hypertension, infections, electrolyte imbalances), cardiac patients (post-cath, CHF, A-fib), and post-surgical patients (general, ortho, trauma)
- RN patient ratio is 1:4–6, supported by LPNs (1:4–6) and CNAs (up to 1:14)
- Telemetry skills required: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath care, TR band management, and groin site management (no sheath pulls)
- Required drip management includes insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine; titration for HR but not BP
- Procedures include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, IV maintenance, and Glucommander use
- EMR: Epic (experience required)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, VS3 vital sign monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
- Central telemetry monitoring unit on site
- 12-hour shifts, 7A–7P or 7P–7A, on a 6-week scheduling cycle
- Weekend rotation: 5–6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- No on-call or call-back requirements
- Travelers will float to all Med/Surg and Telemetry units in the facility as needed
Requirements
- Active RN license — GA license or Compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience, with most recent experience within the past year
- BLS certification required
- ACLS certification preferred; EKG competency exam required during onboarding
- Med/Surg certification is a plus
- Proficiency in telemetry monitoring and interpretation, post-cath care, and IV drip titration
- Strong assessment, time management, care coordination, discharge planning, and patient education skills
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide care to a diverse med/surg telemetry patient population, including cardiac monitoring, post-surgical care, and management of chronic/acute conditions
- CNA support includes vitals, blood glucose checks, ADL assistance, ambulation, turning, and patient safety monitoring
- Unit Secretary is on-unit from 7A–11P; house-wide call secretary available 11P–7A
- Charge nurse, discharge nurses, and a Resource float team are available; RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage is available 24/7
- PICC team available on site; RNs draw labs from CVLs; most units use lab collect phlebotomy
- Orientation consists of 1 day of general orientation with educational modules and 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday coverage: travelers are expected to work one shift of each major holiday period (Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
- All time-off requests must be submitted through and approved by the manager
- Scrub color for RNs is navy blue
- Free parking is available around campus
- Unit culture is described as busy and team-oriented
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must have been separated for at least 1 year to be eligible
