Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level 1 Trauma, academic teaching hospital specializing in renal and nephrology patient care, with a minimum of 2 years of experience required.
Details
- 20-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a 637-licensed-bed Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital
- Specialty focus on renal and nephrology patients, including those with acute/chronic kidney disease, ESRD, and hemodialysis (HD) patients
- Peritoneal dialysis patients with inpatient treatments performed on the unit
- Post-op urology and renal surgery patients, as well as common med-surg co-morbidities such as diabetes, hypertension, CHF, and electrolyte imbalances
- Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, with 1-2 CNAs per shift
- Day (7a-7p) and night (7p-7a) shifts available on a 6-week scheduling cycle
- Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts per 6-week schedule
- No on-call or callback requirements
- Floating required to all adult Med/Surg and Telemetry units within the facility
- EMR: Epic (experience preferred)
- Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, Philips monitors, Glucommander, PCA pain management, bladder scanners, and peritoneal dialysis equipment (HomeChoice)
Requirements
- Active RN license in Georgia (GA) or a Compact state required
- Current BLS and Basic Cardiac Rhythm (BCR) certifications required
- ACLS certification preferred
- Medical-Surgical or Nephrology Nursing national certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience required
- Skills required include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, Glucommander, insulin drips, heparin drips, and titrating drips to HR
- Experience with IV insertion and care, central line management, wound care, and post-op monitoring required
- Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation skills required
- Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
- Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
Additional Information
- Provide nursing care to a complex renal patient population, including management of peritoneal dialysis (manual and cycler); training provided if needed
- Telemetry is monitored via a Central Telemetry Unit
- Support staff includes CNAs, a unit secretary (7a-11p), charge nurses, a PICC team, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 hospitalist and intensivist coverage
- Phlebotomy is lab-collected on most units; nurses draw from central venous lines (CVLs)
- Orientation consists of 1 day of facility orientation with educational modules followed by 2 days of departmental orientation
- Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday: Thanksgiving Day or the day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1
- RTO requests require manager approval
- RN scrub color is Navy
- Candidates who have previously worked a permanent position at an AHSE facility must be separated for at least 1 year before being eligible
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted; no radius rule applies — the same rate is offered regardless of proximity to the facility
